Québec: Day 4

Well, Saturday is our last full day in Québec. Today consists of checking out of our hotel and doing a tour of Lower Town Québec. The kids got to hear a lot more history, about Samuel de Champlain and the founding of Québec City.

See this church? It's called Notre Dame des Victoires. It was the church in the movie "Catch Me If You Can" when Tom Hanks' character finally catches up with Leonardo DiCaprio's character in France! Cool, huh?


This is a picture of a mural in Lower Town that was completed in about fourish months by several artists. In it, you can see many historical figures that contributed to Québec history, culture and life. They've incorporated the four hundred years of history into one incredible mural. Impressive, non?


This is a picture of the "Escaliers Casse-Cou" which translates to "Break-Neck Stairs". They're the stairs that lead from Upper to Lower Town Québec. Needless to say, I didn't take the stairs up...I took the Finiculaire!

This was followed by a tour of the St. Lawrence River on a ferry. It was really cold and windy, though, so very few of the kids went out on the deck. Instead, they made themselves at home in front of the vending machines. Nice.

After the ferry ride, the kids had some free time for lunch and shopping before returning to us to do a Historic Facts Finding Rally. If it hadn't been so cold with the wind whipping up all around us, I suspect we would have gotten better answers and more teams completing the rally. I was just happy they tried!

My collegue, Martine, and I went to a lovely café and had some French pasteries called "les religeuses" (the nuns) and an espresso to warm up. This, along with getting crêpes the day before, were probably the most enjoyable moments of the trip for me! ;)

We ended our day grabbing a quick bite to eat and boarding our bus for home at 6 p.m. We said "au revoir" to our fantastic tour guide, Stephane, and settled in for a 12+ hour drive back home.
